Small Actions Can Make A Big Difference
Sometimes, it's easy to scroll through online 'news' and get the sense that things are irreparably broken.
...but that's the problem with social media and online news. It's largely intended to promote a point of view and generate revenue through clicks. There's nothing wrong with that in general, except the filters continue to tighten until suddenly all you're seeing are articles about the last thing you googled. It can create a very myopic view of the world unless you intentionally broaden your view and open your filters.
It's easy to get pulled into a negative space.
And, the truth is, there IS a lot wrong with this world. But to focus on the problems and not attempt to find solutions is a way to stay trapped in the muck of inaction. The saying "Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness" comes to mind.
Fortunately, there is a relatively painless antidote.
Seek out things that are positive, that are making a difference. Step by step, brick by brick, we can build a better future together. Each of us just has to find actions to take that resonate with ourselves and our values. There is no limit to ways we can help, it just takes a small amount of effort to find the ways you want to connect with a better world.
Here's one...
Reach Out and Read serves families in under-served communities. Now, a joint effort between Reach Out and Read and Scholastic is making 350,000 copies of a curated 35-book collection available to participating medical clinics nationwide, providing greater opportunities for parents to bond with their children through reading and foster early literacy.
Reach Out and Read celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and serves more than 4 million families annually. Congratulations to Reach Out and Read on its 35th anniversary and this notable collaboration to make 350,000 books available to young readers and families across the country.
