Reading Room - February 2016
February is an interesting month in most healthcare organizations. It's often the height of flu season, so patient census is typically high. That often means there is the "crisis of the day" to deal with in IT, leaving little time for reading purely for professional knowledge. With that in mind, here are two recommended reads for February. Short and sweet. Enjoy.
IT Governance in Healthcare and Health Systems (Roger Kropf, Guy Scalzi). This book is short, to the point and extraordinarily readable. Whether you're an IT executive or a member of the IT staff, understanding what IT governance is and how it can transform your healthcare IT department can be powerful.
Being Mortal (Atul Gawande). From one of healthcare's best-selling authors, Being Mortal is a thoughtful and thought-provoking read. Gawande explores life, aging and death. He reminds us that aging and dying are not medical conditions - they are part of being human.
